Questions

What is Daat?

Daat is a free iPhone and Android app that scans a food barcode and tells you whether the product fits you. The answer comes from the product’s sugar, fat, sodium and ingredients, checked against conditions you chose yourself.

How do I use it?

The first time, you choose what matters to you, such as low sugar, and tick any sensitivities. From then on you scan products in the shop and get "fits" or "not for you" for each one, with the reason, such as "sugar 18 g".

How is Daat different from Yuka?

Yuka gives each product one general score, the same for everyone. Daat gives no score: it checks the product against your own plan and sensitivities, so the same product can fit one person and not another. Daat is also built for the Israeli market, in Hebrew, with Israeli products.

How does Daat relate to Israel’s red warning labels?

The red label marks products high in sugar, sodium or saturated fat, the same for everyone. Daat shows the actual number, checks it against the plan you chose, and adds things the label does not cover, such as the number of additives and gluten or lactose sensitivity.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. Daat is free on the App Store and Google Play, and you can use it without signing up.

Can I rely on it for an allergy?

No. Daat flags gluten, lactose and glucose from the ingredient list, but it is not an allergy test. Recipes change and our data is sometimes incomplete. With an allergy, always read the package, and take medical questions to a doctor or dietitian.

Where does the product data come from?

From open databases such as Open Food Facts and USDA FoodData Central, Israeli price-transparency data, manufacturers, and label photos users send in. Every fact is stored with its source, and nothing is marked verified until someone on the team has checked it. The full detail is on the methodology page.
